Delhi: A heartbreaking event unfolded in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, where a driver under the influence allegedly struck five individuals who were sleeping on the sidewalk. This incident occurred on July 9, 2025, around 1:45 AM, close to the Indian Oil petrol station in front of Shiva Camp. The Delhi Police were alerted via a PCR call and promptly dispatched officers from the Vasant Vihar police station to the scene. Four of the injured were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital.
The driver has been taken into custody. Among the victims were two couples and an eight-year-old girl. Initial investigations indicated that the driver was intoxicated during the incident. Authorities have initiated a thorough inquiry to piece together the events leading up to the accident. Eyewitness reports suggest that a white Audi was responsible for running over the victims while they slept. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Utsav Shekhar from Dwarka, was apprehended at the scene.
